Blue Hydrangeas

If I had to pick a favorite flower, right now it would be blue hydrangeas. Blue is my favorite color, and I just love the shape of hydrangeas. I think they're so cool.

One random thing I love doing is planting flower pots. I also enjoy landscape design. If I lost my job and had to find something else to do, it would probably be designing homes and landscaping. There's something very satisfying about a perfectly manicured lawn, or clean edges around a flower bed.

For the last few years for Mother’s Day I’ve planted my mom‘s flower pots for her. Unfortunately, this year I was out of town and she did them herself. And I really missed doing it. I have no idea what I'm doing, my mom always helps pick out plants that will work best in each pot with the varying sun/shade ratio. Here's an example of what one of the pots looks like while I'm trying to design the layout.

One of my favorite plants to use in pots are potato vines - both green and purple - because they grow down the sides of the pots and make them look really full. Here’s a picture of a pot at the end of the season, and I went a little too overboard with the potato vines. I also think a couple plants were mislabeled, because the front ones grew WAY taller than I expected. Another trick we've tried is planting petunia vines to make the pots look fuller. They grow pretty fast and add some color, which I like.

This is not something I claim to be very good at, but I do enjoy planting flowers and watching them take shape throughout the season.
